When Mary Jane Santa Ana Guck started her acting career in the entertainment industry, it didn’t occur to her that it would lead to recognition and fame. It discusses the life of a mother of 4, who strives to make ends meet and wants nothing but the best interest of her family. Living in one of the poorer community areas, the earnings in running a small convenient store seemed not enough for Ma’ Rosa and her wards to experience a decent living; prompting her and husband Nestor to resell narcotics to augment their income. Unfortunately, Ma’ Rosa got arrested in the process, prompting her children to do whatever needs to be done for her to be freed from the clutches of corrupt law enforcers.
Winning the best actress award in Cannes serves as a fitting highlight to Jaclyn Jose’s storied career as an artist. It just shows that aspiring actors and actresses need not go to the extremes (and often ridiculous circumstances) for them to hug the limelight and earn the respect of the international community.
