The Pintados Festival


Fiesta or Festival in the Philippines is celebrated all year  around. Filipinos are known as "Fiesta Loving People". Festival started during the Spanish Era way back 400  years ago. The Spaniards came to the Visayas Islands and found men and women heavily tattoed , whom they called Pintados.

In 1888 missionaries from Spain brought to the island the  Child Jesus image known as "El Capitan “ a rich and  colorful background that draw out the devotion and  worship of the Leyte natives to the Sto Nino.


The Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival and is called as the "Festival of Festivals" of Tacloban City is a  Filipino with its own unique flavor. It is a merry- making  event lasting a whole month, highlights of which include  the 17th Pintados Festival Ritual Dance Presentation and the "Pagrayhak"  Grand Parade. These festivals are said to have began  from the feast of Senor Santo Niño, held every June 29th.
