Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is one of the most celebrated occasions for Filipinos. It is an opportunity to remember the effort and sacrifices of our mothers, as well as show our gratitude for them for guiding us through life.

I am a certified mom’s girl. Even though we fight a lot, argue a lot and disagree most of the time, my mom is my best friend. When I was growing up, I’d always insist on sleeping beside my mom and dad. Being with them it makes me feel comfortable that everything would be alright around me.

I love my mom. There’s no doubt about that. But just like many modern daughters, I tend to disagree on a lot of things with my mom. In my high school years we often fought over the little things. I used to think of my mom as my number one enemy - the one person I was certain was set to ruin my life. And this often led to even a bigger arguments ranging from how one of us was wrong. How I thought she was being unreasonable or “worse; how I thought she was a “bad” mother. Whenever we got into a heated argument, I would never give up, horrible things coming from my mouth. The time she gets visibly upset and stops answering back is when I know I had to stop. I often felt guilty after our arguments. Because she is the last person who deserves to hear such harsh words.

Love of children is an act of love given unconditionally, unselfishly. Mothers will do anything, give everything, and even take a bullet for their children. Sacrifices are part of their lives, and whatever pain they may cause them pales in comparison to the happiness they have given to their children.

I could not imagine my life without my mom. “Happy Mother’s Day Mom!” I love you.
