Beauty Secret From Squash

It is known that vitamin A helps maintain healthy skin, teeth, soft tissues, mucus membranes and skin. Retinol, which is one of the animal forms of vitamin A, is an active ingredient in cosmetic products against wrinkles and acne.

The counterpart in plant-based or preformed vitamin A in animal products is the beta-carotene.  And among the rich sources beta-carotene is squash or kalabasa.  Although the word kalabasa implies the negative connotation of poor performance, this orange vegetable is rich with vitamin A which is rich in phosphorous and calciums, squash can make your skin look radiant and beautiful. And you can produce your own beauty secrets with squash- from cleanser to facial and eye mask –without breaking the bank.  So save your skin from harsh (chemical) ingredients of commercial beauty products.

CLEANSER (normal – to oily skin) -  You need one slice of squash and ¼ cup of milk.  Preparation: Remove the skin, seeds and cut squash into cubes. Put in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave the squash cubes until they are soft and mash it.  In another small bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of the mashed squash with the milk.  Add ¼ cup of water and mix well.
Application: Pour a small amount of the mixture onto a clean, wet washcloth or sponge. Wash your face gently with mashed squash with the milk in the morning and evening and rinse it with warm water.

FACIAL MASK  (dry skin) - You need one squash wedge and one tablespoon olive oil.  Preparation:  Remove the rind and chop up the squash into 10 cubes.  Boil the cubes in water for 10 minutes, drain, mash them and allow to cool.  Combine 2 tablespoons of mashed with the oil and mix well.
Application:  Gently apply this for 20 minutes to your face and neck and relax. Rinse it off with warm water and then apply your moisturizer.

EYE MASK - You need one squash, slice and one teaspoon honey.
Preparation:  Peel and seed a slice of squash. Cook it until soft in 2 cups of water, mash it add 1 teaspoon of honey and mash it.
Application:  Use the clean gauze and put the mixture inside, place over your eyes and relax for 20 minutes.

The Best Strategy To fight Infections

Serving  more fruits and vegetables  to your daily diet will power up your immune system to fight infections.

According to studies conducted by the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology say, regularly eating fruits and vegetables boosts the body resistance against infection and common illnesses like colds.

FNRI nutritionists suggest eating two to three servings of fruits everyday to fight infections.   One medium size fruit or one slice of big fruit is equivalent to one serving fruit.  Anonas, strawberry, ripe papaya, cashew, dailes, atis, ripe mango, tomato, melon, guwayabano, siniguelas, and naranghita are examples of vitamin C-rich fruits.

Fruits can be eaten cooked or raw.  You can also serve the fruits for people who
are on a special diet and need soft foods like the elders.

Here are the types of fruits and vegetables to take daily.

-   Yellow fruits like ripe papaya and ripe mango to acquire provitamin A.

-    Ripe papaya and shuha (pomelo) for vitamin C; banana , pineapple,

     red guava, and calamansi.
 -   Did you know that cashew has more vitamin C than dalanghita?  Don't forget

     unripe mango.

-   Medium ripe papaya for vitamin C, riboflavin, iron, calcium and protein.

Other Uses Of Coffee Grounds

Now that you have found the special "benefit" of brewed coffee, you will be surprised to discover that coffee grounds have other extraordinary uses aside from body scrub.

You may have missed the idea that it can be a fabric dye.  But there are more uses for used coffee grounds.  Check it here.

Deodorizer for food prep.  This happens when you are handling food with a strong smell that sticks to your hand.  Dry the coffee ground on a cookie sheet and then place them in a bowl in your fridge or freezer and then when you need to remove smells from your hands, rub the grounds on them.

Repel bugs.  Coffee grounds are great to repel ants, sprinkle old grounds around places where you do not want the ants, they are also said to help discourage snails and slugs.

Use to absorb odors.  Take some old nylons or cheesecloth to make a sachet filled with old coffee grounds, hang them in a closet to help absorb odors.

Shoo away cats.  Keep your own cats or the neighbors from using your garden as a litter box, spread a pungent mixture of orange peels and used coffee grounds around your plants and the cats will avoid it.

Hair color enhancer.  If you have darker colored hair, use coffee grounds as a way to enhance color, shine and softness.  While taking a shower, press the grounds against your hair and rub, then shampoo thoroughly to avoid smelling like coffee afterwards.
